Telford karaoke queen Rose, 87, records first CD

Great-grandmother Rose Strickland is known as Shropshire's Karaoke Queen but has only just recorded her first CD – at the age of 87.

Rose is well known for her performances in county pubs and belts out the high notes at up to four different karaoke nights every week.

Despite a huge repertoire of songs under her belt, Rose has chosen just 14 to appear on her first album.

The pensioner, from Malinslee, Telford, has decided to call her CD 'Rose Sings' and has featured songs from artists such as Whitney Houston and Frank Sinatra.

Rose, who celebrated her birthday in October, paid a visit to Scadge Recording Studios in Hortonwood, Telford, on Monday where she recorded her tracks.

Although it was the first time she was ever in a studio, Rose said she was no diva and just got on with the job – only stopping once for a cup of tea. "It was a most wonderful experience and I wasn't nervous at all. I even started to dance at my own singing," said Rose.

"They took a photograph of me while I recorded and created my own CD and CD cover with my picture on it, even before I had finished."

Stardom for the great-grandmother may not be too far away either as she sets her sights on national television.

"I entered Britain's Got Talent last year and I got on a shortlist and that was it. Maybe it was something to do with my age. But I am going to do it again with another song which more people may prefer to hear," she added.

Among the pubs she sings in are The George, Shifnal; The Horse Shoes Inn, Ketley, Telford; and the White Horse in Dawley.
