Shropshire Council's scheme to reduce the number of parking spaces in High Street, Church Stretton, will result in shops closing and the loss of the Thursday general market whose customers will have nowhere to stop to collect their shopping.

The scheme is being financed by the Market Towns Improvement Fund – yet ironically, once implemented, will result in Church Stretton no longer having a market.

Traders say that if it goes ahead they will no longer come to the town.

Nobody, including the council, saw fit to consult the market traders and one can only wonder how such a crass mistake was considered to be of any benefit to the town.
