I have never understood why it was thought necessary to have a first and second class postal system, when to deliver letters and parcels directly to customers must be cheaper than sorting and storing them.

I have never understood why it was thought necessary to have a first and second class postal system, when to deliver letters and parcels directly to customers must be cheaper than sorting and storing them.
Rather than putting up the price of postage stamps, which will lead to a reduction in usage of their services, Royal Mail might consider reverting to a single class of letters and parcels.
The way things are going we shall not have a post service within five years.
