Letter: Let's back the police
It is said that every cloud has a silver lining and during the latter part of 2011 our country experienced an unprecedented storm. However, for the first time since the last world war we appeared to regain our sense of values, community spirit and respect for the police.
It is said that every cloud has a silver lining and during the latter part of 2011 our country experienced an unprecedented storm. However, for the first time since the last world war we appeared to regain our sense of values, community spirit and respect for the police.
Following the riots, individually and as a country we showed our appreciation of the men and women who provide us with protection and support.
On May 10 the same officers are being forced to march on Parliament to try and prevent cuts to their wages, pensions and jobs.
Will the people of London walk alongside them? Or when the sun shines will we forget how we felt in the midst of a storm and ignore the obvious?
It won't be the police officer outside of No 10 who loses his job, but those who have helped us in the past and would have continued to do so in the future.
Aside from this letter I can do little to show my gratitude and respect for those who police our streets. But on May 10 I will send an e-mail to my MP and place a sign in the window of my car and hope you do the same.
