She has the voice of an angel – and now she's going to sing for the Queen. Shrewsbury-born All Angels star Melanie Nakhla will help celebrate Her Majesty's big day at Cosford next week when she performs the Diamond Jubilee anthem Sing.

The performance will see Melanie take the solo part of the hit song with backing from the Shropshire Girls Choir.

The song – written by Take That's Gary Barlow and Phantom of the Opera composer Andrew Lloyd Webber – formed a highlight of the jubilee concert at Buckingham Palace last month when it was performed by the African Children's Choir and the Military Wives.

Melanie's performance will form the grand farewell finale to the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh's visit to Cosford for Shropshire's biggest ever party next Thursday.

At the Cosford spectacular, Melanie will be joined by the Shropshire Girls Choir, conducted by Alison Stevens.

Some of the girls remember Melanie from Romany Wood – presented at the Royal opening of Shrewsbury's Theatre Severn in 2009, when they sang with her on stage.

Entertainment at Cosford will run from 10am to 5pm, including demonstrations from industrial, commercial and agricultural life in an RAF display hangar.

The day is being organised by the Lord-Lieutenant, Mr Algernon Heber-Percy, aided by a committee from Shropshire Council, Telford & Wrekin Council, RAF Cosford, the RAF Museum and the police.
