With thousands of people expected to flood into Weston Park for the V Festival this weekend, Shropshire Council and the ambulance service have advised revellers to make sure their weekend goes to plan.

West Midlands Ambulance Service has warned festival-goers to prepare for what the unpredictable British summer might throw at them, and to take suncream as well as wellies, while Shropshire Council has announced that four roads around the park will be closed across the weekend.

Fans will be flocking to see superstar acts such as The Stone Roses, The Killers and Nicki Minaj .

Assistant Chief Ambulance Officer Steve Wheaton said: "Savvy festival goers are urged to bring their wellies and sensible footwear to help avoid any unnecessary slips and falls, as well as some sun cream should the sun decide to shine over the park."

There will be staff on hand to assess and treat anyone who might become ill or injured during the weekend.

There will also be a self-contained medical centre staffed by St John Ambulance. The centre will be equipped to deal with all types of injuries. On the roads, alternative routes will be made available for drivers, although the roads will still be open for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists and horse riders.

Mill Lane, in Tong, Chatwell Lane, in Sheriffhales, and the A41 and the M54 Interchange, both at Tong, will all be affected. Mill Lane, at Tong, will be closed from the junction with Offoxey Road to the county boundary for four days from August 17.

Chatwell Lane will also be closed, from the B5314 Chester Road to the A41. The A41 southbound lane from the Pickmere Island to the M54 Interchange 3 at Tong will be closed for one day on August 17 as the fans travel to the festival. The route and closed lane will be reversed on August 20 when the festival ends.
