Osfest name change to attract crowds

Osfest, Shropshire's annual star studded music festival, has been given a new name to help it bring in audiences from across the country.

The summer event, which has been held in Oswestry's Park Hall Show ground for the last three years has attracted a number of top acts including rock band Razorlight and Hard-Fi.

But when it takes place from May 24-27 next year it will be called Break for the Border. And instead of three days of music the weekend will be split up into three days, with a comedian performing on Friday night, a day of pop music on Saturday and a day of music for the 'older audience' on Sunday.

Stages will also be put inside big tops instead of being in the open air after this summer's downpours.

Carly Jackson, event director, said the Osfest team will be working with Shropshire Council for the 2013 festival. She said: "We are changing things slightly for the next year. There is still camping but we are putting things indoors. We are putting everything in big tops after everything was so wet this year.

"For 2013 the festival will have a new spin on it. It will be called Back to the Border, brought to you by Osfest.

"We thought with Osfest it was quite localised, even though the brand has been there the last three years."

She hopes the 'slight' change will help attract people to the event from all across the country.

Miss Jackson said local bands would still be able to play and there would still be a dance area.

She said: "We have no intentions of dropping anything."

Last year festival organisers estimated there were about 5,500 people attending the site over the weekend.
