Alexandra Jayne, 20, from Ketley in Telford, has made it through to the grand final of national talent competition Open Mic UK, which will take place on Saturday.

She will perform in front of an industry judging panel and a live audience of more than 2,700 people for the chance to win thousands of pounds worth of prizes, including studio time.

Miss Jayne had to beat hundreds of hopefuls at the audition stage before taking on 18 contestants at the regional final in Birmingham and 22 at the area final in Bedford.

In the area final she performed a medley of the Jay-Z song Young Forever and one of her own songs, Best That You Can.

"I'm excited and nervous about the event," said Miss Jayne. "I'm so pleased to be through to the grand final in London. I've had fantastic support from friends and family and can't wait to do them proud."

Miss Jayne started singing lessons when she was six years old and has been training for 10 years. She has been writing songs and playing gigs around Shropshire after she sang karaoke at a pub in Bridgnorth.
