X Factor star Lucy Spraggan was forced to pull out of a gig in Shropshire because of ill health – but hundreds of fans flocked to see her support act.

The 20-year-old singer was due to play at The Buttermarket, in Howard Street, on Saturday night but had to cancel after coming down with gastroenteritis.

Martin Monahan, owner of Buttermarket, said the star was violently sick during the afternoon and still looked unwell during her 5pm sound check.

He said: "She went back to the hotel room to try and get some rest before the gig. She took a turn for the worse and a doctor went to see her."

The gig will now be rescheduled to a date some time next month. It is hoped Spraggan will play a longer set than the one planned for this weekend's performance.

Yesterday, she took to Twitter to apologise to her 527,000 followers:

Spraggan's support act Max Milner, who auditioned for TV show The Voice, played an extended set while organisers waited to see if Spraggan was well enough to perform.
