The celebrity was due to sing at the Buttermarket nightclub in Howard Street on Saturday.

But despite his best efforts to dig his car free out of the snow, the singer tweeted a picture of his vehicle to his 233,000 followers with a caption which read:

Debi Zornes, a spokeswoman for Shayne Ward, said: "It had to be cancelled due to the weather which has been affecting everybody around the country.

"Shane was having problems getting there also I know the venue was also concerned about fans being stuck and getting there as well.

"They thought it was better if it was rescheduled so we are working on a date, possibly at the end of April but that has not been confirmed yet."

Martin Monahan, owner of The Buttermarket, said: "It's a great shame that the snow forced Shayne to postpone the gig, but would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding. Despite Shayne's best efforts to get to Shrewsbury, it simply wasn't to be. We were inundated with calls from fans who were distressed that they also wouldn't have been able to make it either.

"Everyone's safety must always be of paramount importance. A rescheduled ate will be announced at some point this week."

He added that all tickets will be valid for the rescheduled date.

Shayne rose to fame as the winner of the second series of The X Factor. He has sold more than three million records worldwide and has had number one albums and singles in nine countries. His first single, That's My Goal, became the last number one hit of 2005.
