Church date for Shawbury Military Wives Choir
They may have featured on a number one album and supported Sir Cliff Richard on tour just weeks ago, but a choir based in Shropshire have shown they have not forgotten their roots.
The Shawbury Military Wives Choir performed last night as part of a charity concert at St Peters' Church, Stoke on Tern, near Market Drayton.
The choir, made up of women who all have connections to RAF Shawbury and Tern Hill Barracks, near Market Drayton, performed with pupils from Stoke-on-Tern Primary School to raise money for school funds and Help for Heroes.
The 120-strong audience is a far cry from the 5,000 fans the Military Wives performed in front of earlier this month on Sir Cliff's Midsummer Nights Tour – but choir leader Michelle Gee said it was just as special.
She said: "It was lovely, it was one of our favourite concerts to date. One third of the choir is from Tern Hill Barracks so it was really nice for them to be going to their community."
Fifty children from the school, aged between six and 11, took part.
The concert included songs by Adele, James Taylor and Take That. It also included a performance of Stronger Together by the Shawbury Military Wives Choir, the title track from an album that reached number one last year featuring choirs from across the world.
