Contractors have discovered that extra work on the sewers needs to be completed, council bosses have said.

Diggers arrived at the Victoria Park site in July to start removing earth where the extension will be built. But no workmen have been seen on site since the weekend.

Emily Knightley, a spokeswoman for Telford & Wrekin Council, today said: "Due to unexpected works that need to be done to divert the sewer, we are awaiting further equipment to complete this work."

She said work should re-start by the end of the week.

Miss Knightley added: "We will try to regain the time lost once the swimming pool is closed."

Building work is scheduled to continue until December. The new fitness suite will provide about 50 workout machines.
