Aimee Fisher, nine, has won a regional ballet competition. Presenting Aimee with her award was Renee Lee.

Aimee Fisher, of Meole Brace, Shrewsbury, was chosen ahead of more than 60 other entrants as the winner in the Cecchetti Classical Ballet competition at the weekend.

She won the junior section in the Wales and West regional heats which took place at the Congress Theatre, Cwmbran.

Aimee has been dancing with the LA Theatre Arts, Dance and Performing Arts School, based at the Meole Brace Peace Memorial Hall since she was five years old.

The weekend's event was the first competition she has entered.

Competitors performed in groups on stage, demonstrating a series of exercises from Port de Bras to Allegro, followed by a set dance.

Renee Lee, from the dance school, said Aimee was delighted to have won.

"She was really surprised. She had her number on and didn't realise it was her to start with," she said.

"She was as shocked as everyone else. It was great. It is a real achievement considering there were so many entrants."

There may also be an opportunity for Aimee to take part in the junior dance on the Cecchetti Society Day in July alongside the other competition winners. This will be held in London.
