Ashok Bhatia, fromTelford, admitted charges of making a counterfeit currency note and possessing a counterfeit currency note.

The 19-year-old, of Chesterfield Road, Dawley, appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court.

Mr Michael Sherwood-Smith, for Bhatia, said the teenager claimed to have found a foil embossing machine at a flat he moved into and decided to produce some "fairly inept" £10 notes.

He added: "Personally I find it strange that someone with more experience wasn't involved, but he wants to take responsibility for the issue himself."

The case was adorned for pre-sentence reports to be carried out by the Probation Service and Bhatia was granted bail.

A date for the next hearing was not set.
