Travel reminder over Easter getaway plans

Tourist attractions were today bracing themselves for a busy Easter as travellers were warned to expect some disruption over the break.

Schools have now broken up for the Easter holiday and from today, with temperatures expected to reach up to 14 degrees, with sunny spells, families were expected to take to the roads.

But travellers getting away for Easter on train services from Shropshire into Wales and the West Midlands have been warned to expect some minor disruption over the bank holiday weekend in particular.

For Arriva Trains Wales, on Good Friday, the 4.35am Machynlleth to Aberystwyth service will be replaced by rail replacement bus, while on the 5.14am Aberystwyth to Birmingham International service, a bus will replace trains between Aberystwyth and Machynlleth. Otherwise a normal weekday service will continue.

On Easter Sunday there will be a normal Sunday service and on Easter Monday services will return to a normal weekday service, with a reduced train service between Wrexham and Bidston, with trains every two hours.

For London Midland trains, on Good Friday the 5.51am Bimingham New Street to Shrewsbury service will start from Wolverhampton while on Easter Sunday, local stopping trains from Wolverhampton to Birmingham New Street are retimed to run slightly earlier while trains from Birmingham New Street to Wolverhampton will operate to the normal Sunday timetable.

On Easter Monday, the 5.51am service between Birmingham New Street and Shrewsbury will not run, nor will the 6.04am Birmingham New Street to Wolverhampton service. The 6.49am service between Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street will not run, the 7.26am Birmingham New Street to Shrewsbury service will be cancelled, the 8.07am Wolverhampton to Birmingham New Street will not run and the 5.46pm Birmingham New Street to Shrewsbury service will not run.

On the roads, in Shropshire Council's area, ongoing road and footpath closures will remain in place, while new closures will be in place tomorrow on the level crossing at Station Road, Prees between midnight at 10am for rail inspection and maintenance.

Closures will also start on High St, Mardol Head and Shoplatch, Shrewsbury for the next four Sundays to make way for road maintenance works. Salop Street, Bridgnorth will also be closed between 7.30am and 4.30pm to allow works to the drainage connection.

From Monday, London Road, Shrewsbury between Ebnal Road to Column Island will be closed for five days for carriageway resurfacing while The Serpent junction to Caynham Road junction,

Caynham will close for three weeks for a main water renewal.

On Easter Sunday, the High Street in Bridgnorth will be closed between 9am to 1pm for the annual charity tractor run.
