Letter: Immigration cannot go on at present rate

One begins to wonder if what one says will ever penetrate the mind of Labourite Peter Harrison.

Published

Does he not realise that people like me and other supporters of Ukip are not opposed to immigration. I, myself, have been an economic migrant but I am totally opposed to uncontrolled immigration into an island state that is nearly full.

Does Mr Harrison appreciate the problems of trying to teach children in a school with in excess of 20 languages being spoken?

Does he understand the financial and logistical implications of trying to supply a NHS to the world. It can't be done without disaster following in its' wake. Nobody is arguing that if people's skills are required here and they are invited to come and properly settle here with all services available it will be an advantage to us all.

One question I would be interested to put to Mr Harrison: "How many illegal immigrant criminals would he find acceptable?"

In conclusion I would further like to ask Mr Harrison why, in 1997, did he not write and show support for the millions of Hong Kong citizens who were denied their right to a British Passport and the right to settle here and condemned to live under a Communist system when that British colony was handed over to China?

The administrations of the day were very kind to skilled people and the very rich, they were given passports not so the proles. And before anyone says Hong Kong had to go to China because of a lease, it didn't, there was no lease on Hong Kong Island or Kowloon. It was British and we betrayed them. Where were you then Mr Harrison? Or do you think it is good for them living under communism.
