Letter: View on substance ban is totally wrong
I write concerning the letter titled Draconian drugs law from W F Kerswell, (Shropshire Star, June 16).
Oh dear, not for the first time W F has engaged pen before brain. I do wonder where W F gets the information on which he bases his ramblings.
Now he condemns Home Secretary Theresa May for banning substances which are used to create dangerous mental and physical effects known as legal highs. He rambles on about banning plants, trees and flowers and just about everything he believes he can link to the illegal substance DMT. What utter tosh!
I would ask W F to reflect that as he relaxes in the sleepy safety of rural Picklescott, that out on the streets of this country young people are taking substances produced in China that will give them the high they seek. These substances are not harmless herbs they are psychotic drugs.
I simply ask W F to give a thought to the police officers, medical teams, welfare workers and the families who have to deal with the consequences of people under the influence of psychotic substances. These people are in a self induced state and have no control over their behaviour, can have immense strength, fighting and struggling violently and even doing self harm.
So W F, may I ask that you think again about why the Home Secretary is acting to ban certain substances. She is protecting the public and emergency workers and of course even you in Picklescott.
