People of all ages tried their hands – and feet – at all kinds of sport and leisure, from football and tennis to more unusual sports such as fencing and hula hooping.

Guest of honour at the Oswestry Community Games was Oswestry's own sporting hero, Amy Hughes. The 27-year-old ran 53 marathons in 53 days to raise money for charity but also to inspire young people to take up sport and fitness.

She spent the whole day at the event in Cae Glas Park and said it was always nice to come home to be part of local events.

She said: "I was honoured to have been asked to be guest of honour as getting young people active and involved with sport is what I'm most passionate about."

Organiser Clive Knight urged people to use the inspiration of Amy and of the games to carry on enjoying keeping fit.

He said: "It's wonderful to see so many people of all ages and all abilities here in the park. Children are trying sports with their parents and even their grandparents."

Among those involved in the games, which were set up to celebrate the London Olympics, were a host of sports clubs and fitness organisation from in and around the town.
