Samuel Bailey, 23, of Holyhead Road, Oakengates, is accused of causing unnecessary suffering to the animal, called Beau, on May 21. He is alleged to have thrown the dog against a brick wall.
Telford magistrates adjourned the case to December 18. The 23-year-old appeared at Telford Magistrates Court and spoke only to confirm his name and address. Bailey is also accused of dragging the dog by its lead over a long distance, kicking it a number of times and punching it to the head.
Magistrates adjourned the case for a psychiatric report to be prepared determining Bailey's fitness to plead.
