The lights have been causing lengthy delays for motorists approaching Limekiln Bank Roundabout in Telford.

However, Telford & Wrekin Council says the roadworks are slightly ahead of schedule, meaning the lights will not be in use tomorrow and Sunday.

The lights will be taken down tonight to reduce congestion using over the weekend.

Russell Griffin, spokesman for the council said: "We appreciate this part of the work is causing inconvenience to road users and by removing the lights over the weekend this will give some much needed respite to residents and businesses on Saturday and Sunday."

The works, which started in February, are due to continue until July.

Councillor Angela McClements, Telford & Wrekin Council's cabinet member for communities, regeneration and transport, said the work was part of a £17 million Growth Point Package scheme, which included money from the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership, which had secured support from the Government's Local Growth Fund.

Six sites around Telford are earmarked for work under the scheme, which is expected to open up land allowing the building of 2,849 homes and creation of 4,844 jobs.

Another 245 jobs are expected to be safeguarded by the work
