Shropshire's first royal visit of 2018 announced
Shropshire’s first royal visitor of the year has been announced.
The Princess Royal flies in on Monday starting a busy day at Shrewsbury where, as patron of Youth Support Services, she will attend a conference to review the Warwickshire and West Mercia Armed Forces Covenant and criminal justice system and the Remember Veterans project.
Her Royal Highness will be met and escorted by newly-appointed Vice Lord Lieutenant Colonel Mark Cuthbert-Brown, who will also accompany the royal party on the short helicopter trip to the Stallion AI Services at Chapel Field Stud, Whitchurch, where the Princess will be offered an extensive tour and will also open the Equine Semen Centre.
At the Shrewsbury venue the royal visitor will also be greeted by Lady Susanna McFarlane, YSS chairman and the High Sheriff Charles Lillis and his wife Veronica as well the Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Jane Mackenzie, and she is also expected to make a keynote speech.
Once at Stallion AI Services, members of staff, the Matson family and the local community will join managing director Tullis Matson in the special royal welcome and tour.
The Princess has been out ‘on tour’ for nearly 50 years since she was 18 and her first trip was indeed to Shropshire where she opened an educational and training centre.
She is a long time president of the Save the Children Fund which began in in the county and is the present chancellor of Harper Adams University.
