Chris Wood, from Columbus in Ohio, arrives in Wolverhampton

Chris Wood, who lives in Columbus in Ohio, made the lengthy trip to see Wolves take on Southampton and arrived in the region on Thursday.

He said: "It's the first time I'm in the United Kingdom and I came over to see the game.

"I'm the founding member of Wolves USA on Facebook and I've been a fan since 2003 when they won the play-off final.

"I read up on how the league worked and I started watching it and saw the play-offs were on tv and Wolves went 3-0 up and Matt Murray made a save – I've been sold ever since.

"Then in 2011 I found some folks in Columbus that are Wolves fans, too.

"Wolves USA has slowly grown ever since. We've got over 1,500 members now.

"It's easy to support football because the EPL is huge over there. Most people follow teams like Arsenal, your Tottenhams. Almost everybody there supports football."

The 33-year-old made his journey from Ohio to New Jersey, before arriving in Manchester.

He said: "I made it by myself and one of my other long-time friends is hosting me. He's one of my fellow administrators who still lives here – he's also called Chris.

"I went from Columbus in Ohio to Newark in New Jersey and then to Manchester.

"My host was waiting for me there and we took the train back to Wolverhampton.

"My ticket didn't tell me where to go - it said Manchester to Wolverhampton - but luckily my host knew where to go. If I would've done it on my own I would've been lost."

The Wolves USA founder said a difference he noticed was the railway, adding: "In my part of the states, we don't have trains like that.

"It's mainly highways and taxis and pretty much everybody drives over there."

Chris said he would be 'very happy' if Wolves maintained their current place, 10th in the league, or improved on it.

He added: "Since I watched most of the games, we should be right where we are - if not higher at the end of the season, barring acts of god or accidents.

"I've got half a week to stay - I came especially for the one game.

"Southampton is not playing well - they've only got five points this season, so I'm thinking like a 2-0 win for Wolves."
