Prime Minister Theresa May will be happier than most to bid 2018 farewell, and she has taken the traditional route with her card – running a contest among local school children in her constituency.

Theresa May’s card was drawn by Dexter Van Elkan, nine

Mrs May’s design, featuring a snowman and a Christmas tree, was drawn by nine-year-old Dexter Van Elkan and was hand-picked by the Prime Minister and her husband Philip from competition entries in Maidenhead.

Jeremy Corbyn’s card features his cat, El Gato

There was no competition this year for Jeremy Corbyn, whose card features a pic of his cat, El Gato, curled up in front of a roaring fire in his living room.

Mr Corbyn's deputy, Tom Watson, the MP for West Bromwich East, raised a few chuckles with his card, which features the message: "Thanks for brightening my Brexit year. Have a good Christmas."

Lucy Allan’s card

Telford MP Lucy Allan's card has a slightly quirky twist, featuring a Christmas tree decorated with a model of the tower of Big Ben and a beefeater.

North Shropshire MP Owen Paterson has gone for a more traditional look, with a Nativity scene featuring three wise men heading towards the stable.

Philip Dunne’s card features an image of St Laurence’s Church

Ludlow's Philip Dunne chose to support St Laurence's Church Conservation Trust with his card. A scenic photograph showing the church towering over the town is featured on the front of the card, copies of which are being sold to raise funds for the trust.
