Officials from Shropshire Council, which owns the Shrewsbury-theatre, and the national body, The Theatres Trust, have both expressed concern over proposals to convert a nearby building into apartments.

The plans for Frankwell Quay Warehouse, propose creating a restaurant and cafe on the ground floor of the building, along with nine apartments on the floors above - with third and fourth floors added to the top of the building.

The site backs onto Theatre Severn, and the application is a joint proposal from Frankwell Quay Developments and the site's owner – Engrailed Cross Investments.

But now concerns have been raised that the plan could pose a threat to Theatre Severn itself.

The main worries are that potential residents of the flats could complain about noise from the theatre - specifically the loading and unloading of equipment for shows.

Both Shropshire Council representatives and the Theatre Trust say this in turn could lead to restrictions on noise at the venue, limiting which acts can be booked, meaning the theatre would lose out on vital revenue.
