Shrewsbury Crown Court and other court centres have had a busy few weeks, with a variety of offenders landing up in the dock to face justice.
Sadistic Philip Mutch, 40, formerly of Shrewsbury but most recently of Capern Grove, Birmingham, was jailed on Friday after a court was told of his sickening attacks on a former partner, including force-feeding her cigarette butts.
The violent attacks took place over three years – including while the woman, who was living in Shrewsbury, was pregnant.
Mutch was described as "obsessed by the idea his partner had been unfaithful".
He pleaded guilty to five charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and one count of controlling or coercive control behaviour, and was locked up for 30 months.
A violent man who stabbed a father multiple times in front of a young child was locked up for 11 years.
