The crew at Presteigne Fire Station has recently expressed an interest in starting a Fire Cadets programme.

As part of this, they wanted to understand if there would be an appetite within the local community and when they announced their idea, they received a fantastic response on the station’s Facebook page.

A spokesperson for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “The next steps now include the necessary checks and training and recruitment in local schools and the community.

“It’s expected that the two-year cadets programme will begin in Presteigne in September 2025.”

Fire Cadets is a nationally-recognised programme and is a great way for young people to gain invaluable skills, make lots of new friends, learn to work as a team and have a lot of fun along the way.

Youngsters aged between 13 and 16 looking for a fun, challenging and exciting way to gain new skills, as well as an unique insight into working within an emergency service, could apply.
