Beefy boys prepare to build a whopper in burger world finals
Local burger heroes, The Beefy Boys, are on a mission to claim first place at the World Food Championships in Indianapolis this week, exactly ten years after their debut at the competition in 2014.

The four lifelong friends turned award-winning restauranteurs who have a restaurant in Shrewsbury, will represent the UK as they battle it out for the title of World’s Best Burger.
The Beefy Boys’ journey began on Thursday, exactly ten years after their competition debut, when they will fly to the United States and immerse themselves in the vibrant culinary culture of Indianapolis before the contest begins.
The boys will be keeping followers up to date with their journey through a series of daily video diaries, which will be shared with their social media followers. These videos will give fans an exclusive look at their meticulous preparations and their search for the perfect premium ingredients for their burgers.
The competition heats up on Sunday, when The Beefy Boys face twenty other elite burger experts in the first round of the Championships. In this stage, they will be required to craft an ‘Extreme Burger’, compiling a selection of luxurious ingredients. For this, they have crafted The Boujee Boy: two dry-aged grass-fed beef patties, layered with American cheese, black truffle infused dirty mayo, bone marrow, miso onions, and champagne pickled gherkins. What’s not to love?
Should The Beefy Boys successfully advance, the final will take place next Tuesday. Then they will be required to prepare their ‘Signature Burger’ for which they will present their famed Oklahoma Onion Boy.
The Beefy Boys, childhood best friends Anthony ‘Murf’ Murphy, Daniel Mayo-Evans, Christian Williams, and Lee Symonds, first entered the World Food Championships in 2014 as enthusiastic underdogs. They scooped second place in the Las Vegas competition despite competing against professional chefs. With the prize money from that success, they opened their first restaurant in their hometown of Hereford, creating a space where fans could enjoy their award-winning creations.
Over the past decade, the team has expanded to three restaurant locations, alongside their popular travelling food trucks, released a Sunday Times bestselling recipe book, and appeared on Saturday Kitchen numerous times, becoming one of the UK’s most celebrated burger brands along the way.
Now, as they return to the World Food Championships with years of burger smashing experience behind them, they’re more determined than ever to bring home the title of World’s Best Burger. Their preparation, skill, and signature high quality ingredients make them strong contenders in this year’s competition.
“The World Food Championships is such a huge part of The Beefy Boys’ story, and coming second at the 2014 competition gave us the push to open our first restaurant,” said Murf, co-founder of The Beefy Boys. “Heading back in 2024, ten years later, feels like a homecoming. Winning a gold medal this time would be the ultimate full-circle moment for us.”
