The five men, who operated out of a lockup at Watery Lane, Wolverhampton, targeted firms across the Black Country and went into Staffordshire, Shropshire and Worcestershire taking metal, copper and other goods as well as vehicles to carry them in to the value of around £2.6m.
In the case of the Walsall theft, at Cashmore Metals on January 1 2023, they turned up with a trailer which was so overloaded with the copper that it toppled over.
Sentencing the group at Wolverhampton Crown Court, Judge Michael Chambers KC said the conspiracy - over ten incidents - was as 'exceptionally bad a case involving commercial premises as can be imagined'.
