Chanthapadith Dennis told Telford Magistrates Court that it had been a bad time for him as the break-up happened around his birthday in September this year.
Dennis, aged 20, pleaded guilty to drink driving in a Range Rover Sport at junction six of the motorway at 4.50am on September 29. He recorded a breath test of 44 when the limit is 35.
Kate Price, prosecuting, confirmed that he had no previous convictions.
Dennis, of Coldridge Drive, Shrewsbury, told magistrates that the incident was 'out of character' for him and he is doing well in his life.
