Heavy traffic and delays after crash at Shropshire border closes road

Heavy traffic has been reported near the English/Welsh border following a crash that left a car on a roadside bank.

Oswestry Safer Neighbourhood Team posted on X this morning at 11.30am reporting a road closure between Selattyn and Wern on Bath Banks due to a road traffic collision.

The AA's traffic news website reported heavy traffic in Weston Rhyn due to the closure.

It said: "Road closed and heavy traffic due to crash on Station Road both ways in Weston Rhyn."

The Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service reported no life-threatening injuries, but said casualties were left in the care of West Midlands Ambulance Service. The white Audi car also sustained "significant damage".

West Mercia Police officer based in Oswestry, Michael Hogg posted on the force's Neighbourhood Matters page warning residents of the crash.

The post at noon said the vehicle was awaiting recovery that could take around an hour.

The post said: "Road closed. Between Selattyn and Wern on Bath Banks.

"No serious injuries, but a vehicle awaiting recovery estimated around an hour.

"A note to take away from this collision is to always drive to the road conditions, drive safely and be aware of other road users especially those coming in the opposite direction on narrow roads."

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service received a call at 10.06am reporting the incident on the rural road near Selattyn, Oswestry.

Three fire appliances, including the Rescue Tender were sent from Oswestry and Wellington to the scene.

A post by Oswestry Fire Stationon Facebook said: "The incident involved two vehicles, a white Audi and a light blue Volvo. Crews worked swiftly to assist the casualties and left them in the care of West Midlands Ambulance Service.

"Additional support was provided by North Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

"One vehicle was left on a roadside bank, sustaining significant damage.

"Although some injuries were reported, none were life-threatening. Recovery of the vehicle was estimated to take approximately one hour.

"SFRS extends its gratitude to all emergency services involved for their prompt and professional response.

"The stop message was received at 10.34 am."
