South Shropshire MP Stuart Anderson met with Morville Speed Group alongside the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), John Campion and local Conservative council candidate Dominic Stanford on Friday, November 8.

The consultation came after Mr Stanford attended a meeting of Morville Parish Council on September 10 where residents spoke of their concerns of speeding in the village. Issues raised included speeding vehicles, collisions, and damage to property caused by dangerous driving.

After the meeting, Mr Stanford said "there was a great constructive atmosphere to find solutions".

Mr Anderson is backing calls for measures to be implemented in the area and said he is "determined" alongside the authorities to find a solution.

Alongside an extension of the speed limit down Haughton Lane to include new homes on Prestwich Close, the campaign group is calling for additional road markings, gateway improvements at the entrance to the village, and a vehicle automated sign to remind residents to drive carefully through the village.

An application to the West Mercia Safer Roads Fund is also being considered, after communities were encouraged to apply for the funding. Aimed at curbing harm on West Mercia’s roads, the Safer Roads Fund enables local communities to apply for funding to launch measures in their area to address local road safety concerns.

Measures can include the installation of road signs, speed indicator devices, vehicle activated signs, and street furniture.

The MP added that the campaign group in Morville is also working to ensure that drivers are aware of local speed limits and the nature of built-up residential areas. They have agreed to continue working tirelessly to ensure that prompt action is taken.

Stuart Anderson MP said: "Any form of dangerous or inconsiderate driving behaviour is a serious road safety issue. From the feedback that I have already received, I have been able to identify key hotspots and get to work in tackling this issue.

"My meeting with Morville Speed Group alongside Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion and local council candidate Dominic Stanford was very constructive. Dom has been ably championing these issues alongside residents in the village. We are determined to together find solutions to these ongoing problems and improve the lives of fellow residents for the better. I will continue to do the same across the whole constituency."

Dominic Stanford added: “I was delighted to invite both Stuart Anderson MP and Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion to speak with residents from Morville, who spoke with real passion about the speeding issues affecting their quality of life in the village.

"I am pleased to have brought all of the stakeholders needed to drive this campaign forward together in Morville. Local residents are fed up of speeding vehicles, collisions and damage to their property caused by dangerous driving in the village. With the Parish Council, Stuart and John's support, I am determined to make additional measures to deter speeding a reality."
