A listed building consent application from Tamara Armstrong for 2 Bowling Green Lane is to install flood protection as part of a Powys County Council Flood Alleviation Scheme.

In her plans she said the protection would alter the property by installing demountable flood barriers to each doorway and window below the 600H flood threshold. 

Barrier side posts would be fixed to external walls at doorways, and the boards only in place when in use. Cover plates would be provided to cover the side posts when not in use. The property is grade 2 listed.

Members recommended approval of the plan and Powys County Council will make a final decision by November 19.

Louisa Gallimore is applying for permission to add a dropped kerb in front of the driveway at Glen View, Penybont Road, Knighton.

Meanwhile, Gary Warrington is seeking permission to remove and replace an existing skylight in the kitchen extension at 3 Church Road, Knighton. He would also add a new skylight to the rear of the building to create natural light and ventilation to the bathroom.

Councillors recommended approval of both plans and Powys County Council will make a decision on both applications by December 4.

Graham Steele has applied for permission to extend an existing sun room at the rear of 17 High Street, Knighton. He said it would add an extra 10m2 of floor area and change the roof type from a clear sheet of polycarbonate construction into a warm insulated roof with roof lights .

He said the existing structure is of insufficient size to be functional as living space, and has substantial heat loss through the polycarbonate roof. The proposal will make the room of better size and light than other rooms in the house and will be usable throughout the year by introducing better thermal insulation to the roof and external walls.

The extension will have a patio door leading to patio/garden.

The additional 10m2 of floor area would utilise part of an existing paved patio area and not substantially affect garden/patio area to the rear of the property.

Mr Steele is also applying for permission to replace an existing single garage with a double garage at 18 High Street, Knighton. 

He said he would extend the width of the existing garage into the adjacent garden space at the rear of the property.

He added that the existing garage was in very poor condition with crumbling and unsafe hollow concrete block walls and a failing roof and has therefore been demolished for safety reasons.

Mr Steele said; “There is also an acute shortage of car parking space in adjacent streets and car parks, and bearing in mind that the property 18 High Street is actually three dwellings, the provision of an additional car parking place within the curtilage of the garden will provide better provision for car parking and reduce dependency on public parking places.

“The proposed new structure will be a combination of a double garage accessed from the adjacent lane using existing access provisions from the lane, together with a garden store and a garden room at the rear of the garage.”

Councillors recommended approval of both plans and Powys County Council will decide on both by December 11.
