Shropshire Council introduced a controversial new booking system for access to its five household recycling centres in the county earlier this month.

The change on November 4 has meant that householders can no longer just turn up to the council tips in Bridgnorth, Craven Arms, Oswestry, Shrewsbury and Whitchurch. Instead those visiting the centres will now need to book in advance, with slots available up to six days in advance.
Bookings for cars, vans and trailers can be made online via the Shropshire Council website – or by phone by calling the council’s customer services team.
Fifteen-minute slots will be available for cars, with 30-minutes slots (or 60 minutes at weekends) available for vans/trailers.
The council said the change willl lead to “significant increase in recycling and help smooth demand throughout the day, reducing congestion and queuing and making the sites safer”.
However, two weeks on from the launch and residents have written to the Shropshire Star or taken to social media to explain their experiences, with many criticising the new system.
Tom Seymour from Bridgnorth described the booking system as a “farce”.
