1st Kington Scouts presented with equipment by local walking group.
More hiking and outdoor activities is on the cards for the 1st Kington Scouts after they were presented with walking equipment.
The equipment which includes compasses, emergency survival shelters, OS maps and a set of two way radios for the adult leaders, came from Kington Walks.
Kington Walks recently received a donation from local author Andy Johnson and from Kingspan Insulation (GB & Ireland).
The conditions were that the money should be used locally to encourage young people to walk in local beautiful open spaces, connected to an aspect of education.
Kington Walks trustee Kevin Robinson spoke to Jon Lloyd, an adult leader of the 1st Kington Scouts Troop and Kington Walks agreed to fund equipment to be used by the scouts during local expeditions and for undertaking their proficiency badges.
Kington Walks are also funding the hire of a minibus from Lady Hawkins School to facilitate travel to a selection of locations identified by the Scout troop over the coming year.
The presentation of the equipment took place at the Parish Hall in Kington recently just before the start of the troop meeting.
Kevin said: “The Scouts were very enthusiastic about the equipment donated to their troop and were keen to explain how it would be used.”
Jon Lloyd said; “This is a great opportunity for our scout troop to improve their map reading skills and to use the new equipment when undertaking hiking and overnight proficiency badge activities.
“We are very grateful to Kington Walks for this equipment and hope to team up with Kington Walks during the Walking festivals.”
