The incident happened at the junction with the A456 at Woofferton, close to the Shropshire Herefordshire border.

A spokesperson for Shropshire Fire and Rescue said the lorry was "carrying chickens" and had left the carriageway and come to rest "partially on its side".

Two fire crews were sent to the scene, who reported "no persons trapped and road not blocked".

But Shropshire Council warned delays were expected following the crash, and traffic data revealed that vehicles were moving slowly due to the incident.

A spokesperson for the local authority said: "Accident affecting A49 south of Ludlow - Traffic problems expected this AM after a lorry overturns on A49 at the junction with A456 at Woofferton, on Shropshire Herefordshire border. Emergency services are on site."
