Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Climate Change, Environment and Transport, Ian Nellins has reacted to the Government's funding allocations for local transport authorities to provide bus service improvements throughout England.
The funding allocations were announced on Monday and stated that Shropshire Council will receive just shy of £4 million in total. This adds to a £1.8 million grant from the Department for Transport that was awarded to the local authority in July to support the Shropshire Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP).
The council's plan, which has cross-party approval, includes improvements such as increased bus frequencies, a new route for the 401 Oswestry Town service, and fare reductions for park and ride services.
Meanwhile, Telford & Wrekin Council will receive £3.4 million in total to provide bus service improvements.
