Winner of hospital's public recognition award crowned at ceremony
The winner of this year’s Shropshire Star Public Recognition Award has been announced as part of an award ceremony for the trust which runs the county’s two acute hospitals.
Janice Llewellyn, Children’s Oncology and Haematology Nurse, was crowned the winner in the only category that patients, families and members of the public can nominate and vote for in The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) awards.
Other individuals and teams were also announced as winners on Friday, November 15, in 15 categories at the Annual Trust Celebratory Awards.
Jo Williams, Chief Executive at SaTH, said: “The celebratory awards highlight the amazing achievements of my colleagues and allows us a moment to appreciate and celebrate all the wonderful stories and improvements our colleagues are making, whether individually, as a team or collectively, to care for our patients and their families.
“Thank you to the hundreds of you who took the time to nominate your colleagues and also to the public who nominated and voted for Janice – the winner of the Shropshire Star Public Recognition Award.
“Huge congratulations not only to the winners, but to everybody who was nominated. It is such a difficult task to choose the winners, but also a great honour, as it is so fantastic to see all the great work going on at our Trust.
“I would like to thank our communities, who have supported us, and continue to do so.”
The Trust Celebratory Awards celebrate the outstanding dedication and commitment of staff and the work that they do every day across many services in the hospitals and the wider community to support patients and their families.
Janice, the winner of the Public Recognition Award - in partnership with the Shropshire Star, was described in her nomination as a massive support to a family.
The nomination said: “We couldn't have got through all the years of stress and panic without her. She has a great sense of humour, lots of banter which helps keep things normal. She is so passionate about her specialty and without her the unit wouldn't be the same.”
Among the award winners were Kirstie Watton, Medical Secretaries Supervisor, who received the Rising Star Award for going out of her way to support colleagues and try to ensure the best for her teams and colleagues, and the Caring Award that went to Rachel Williamson, Renal Social Care Coordinator.
Rachel works with transplant, home dialysis and dialysis patients.
She was described as being adored by patients, going above and beyond and demonstrating high standards of care in relation to the patients’ social circumstances.
