Ged Brown, who was in his 60s and from the North of England, collapsed on the bowling green during a match at Tilstock Bowling Club on Sunday, November 17.
Mr Brown had been taking part in round six of the 'Bandit Bowls' winter series, which was being played at the club.
Those present made desperate efforts using CPR and a defibrillator to provide medical assistance, and despite further efforts from ambulance crews, they were sadly unable to save him.
Jamie Brookes, who promotes the Bandit Bowls series, said people were devastated at Mr Brown's death, and thanked all those who had tried to save him.
He said: "We (Bandit Bowls) and I personally wish to send our condolences, thoughts and love to Ged Brown's family after his passing whilst at last Sunday's winter series sessions.
"I would like to thank all involved in his immediate care after his collapse - you we all amazing."
West Midlands Ambulance Service said a number of crews had attended the incident, but were sadly unable to save Mr Brown.
A spokeswoman said: "We were called to a medical emergency at Tilstock Bowling Club on Tilstock Lane near Whitchurch at 2.09pm on Sunday (17th).
"Two ambulances and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews found a man in a critical condition receiving bystander CPR and defibrillator shocks.
"Ambulance staff immediately took over to provide advanced life support but sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, he could not be saved and was confirmed dead at the scene."
