Transport for Wales says services between Shrewsbury and Birmingham International returning to normal schedule

A major train firm has announced that a normal service is set to resume from Shropshire to Birmingham International after a week of a temporary timetable.

Transport for Wales has announced that the temporary timetable, which was put in place on November 16 due to a fleet shortage and saw trains terminate at Wolverhampton, would end on Saturday, November 23.

The fleet shortage and timetable was put in place while two trains were damaged as a result of the fatal incident at at Talerddig on the Cambrian line last month.

Jan Chaudry-Van Der Velde, chief operating officer at Transport for Wales said: “Last week we took the difficult decision to implement a temporary timetable between Shrewsbury and Birmingham International, with services terminating at Wolverhampton.

“This temporary change allowed us to run a consistent service for customers and gave our engineers time to undertake a series of repairs to our Class 158 trains.

“Following the incident at Talerddig on the Cambrian line last month, two Class 158 units were damaged, and the remaining fleet is undergoing maintenance and autumn-related repairs, which have impacted the availability of trains on the route.

“Because the Cambrian line uses a unique in-cab signalling system, we are restricted to only being able to use the Class 158 fleet on it, so we have very limited options to use our other fleets on the line to make up the shortfall.

“Our fleet engineers have been working around the clock to undertake the repair programme and the fleet position has improved during this week and I can confirm from Saturday 23 November the normal timetabled service will resume.”
