L and R Christmas Cracker have brought the warmth and joy of Christmas Day to residents in Leominster who might otherwise spend it alone for the last five years.

They provide a free three course Christmas Day lunch to all, creating a space for connection, celebration and comfort for those who need it most.

Now they want to bring the service to Kington.

They asked the town council for a £200 grant to help and said they would also ask the Co-operative for goods towards the meal.

Rebecca and Lee Ellsmore said: “We are looking to support the lonely and people affected by the cost of living crisis, this can be of any age and background, on what can be the longest of days to be without.

“We will buy everything the week prior, deliver our service on Christmas Day with any leftover usable items going to the food bank and or community larder.”

They estimated the total cost to be about £300 for 100 people and said there would be at least 10 volunteers, they have been offered the Lion Café on Bridge Street as a venue.

Kington Mayor Councillor Phillip Sell said the Parish Rooms will be doing a lunch too but it will be on a different day.

Town clerk Liz Kelso said L and R Christmas Cracker is not a constituted group but the council could pay the money to the venue for them.

Members unanimously agreed to give a £200 grant to the venue for the Christmas Day lunch.
