His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) has today published its report following an inspection of the Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The report highlighted a number of areas of concern, with His Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Fire and Rescue Services Andy Cooke saying he was disappointed at the lack of progress since 2021 - adding that 'many areas have deteriorated'.

The report saw the service receive one ‘good’ rating, three ‘adequate’, six ‘requires improvement’ and one ‘inadequate’.

It comes on the back of a turbulent few months for the service, when its chief, Simon Hardiman and his deputy Adam Matthews were absent due to sickness during a misconduct investigation relating to accusations over sexist WhatsApp messages.
