The crash took place near Rowton, on the A458 between Shrewsbury and Halfway House, shortly before 6pm yesterday (Thursday), and reportedly involved two vehicles - one a car and the other a van.

The road was closed as a result of the incident and an update from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said the crash involved "two vehicles in a head-on collision".

It added that firefighters from two crews were working to help a person trapped in one of the vehicles - and cut the roof off to help them get out.

An update this morning from West Mercia Police said: "We were called to reports of a collision on the A458 near to Rowton Castle at around 5.30pm yesterday. One man was taken to hospital as a precaution.”

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed it had sent two crews to the scene.

She said: "We were called at 5.26pm to a road traffic collision involving a car and a van on Rowton Castle, A458 in Alberbury with Cardeston.

"Two ambulances attended the scene. Upon arrival we found two men who were the drivers.

"The driver of the car had sustained potentially serious injuries. He received treatment at the scene before being conveyed to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for further assessment.

"The driver of the van was assessed and was uninjured. He received self care advice before being discharged at the scene.”
