Ludlow Town Council has announced that Upper Galdeford is likely to be closed until Sunday as engineers continue work to fix a problem.

The water company shut the road on Thursday evening after reports of a reinstatement that was starting to subside.

Following an inspection, the South Shropshire town's council said it was deemed to be a "dangerous reinstatement" and Severn Trent Water were requested to repair it immediately.

The town council added that the Highways & Transport Team has been in constant contact with Severn Trent Water and their contractors throughout the day.

A Streetworks Inspector was on site on Friday morning, and workers tried to complete work and remove the closure ahead of the weekend.

However, as they were carrying out work, additional problems were discovered.

A post by Ludlow Town Council said: "Unfortunately, as they have been doing their works, they have discovered some additional problems which means the road closure will likely remain in place for the next couple of days at least. They are hopeful of the works being completed and the road re-opened on Sunday.

"Highways & Transport Team are aware of the problems this is likely to cause the town over the weekend with Temeside also being closed at present. Severn Trent Water are altering the diversion around the town so that both can run at the same time along with additional signage being placed to pre-warn motorists about the issues."
