Waste energy company Encyclis is building the plant on former derelict land in Fryers Road in the Beechdale area of the town.

The state-of-the art facility, which is due to be up and running in three years' time, is expected to use combustion technology to convert about 480,000 tonnes of waste annually into enough electricity to power around 90,000 homes.
