Inspector praises Telford school for improvements to pupils’ behaviour after it was criticised by Ofsted

An inspector visited Haberdashers’ Abraham Darby school in Madeley on October 23 for a monitoring inspection after Ofsted said the school's behaviour and attitudes 'required improvement' following an inspection last June. 

In a letter to the school's principal, Joanne Edgar, inspector Richard Wakefield has commended the school and leaders for their measures taken to improve.

The letter outlining Mr Wakefield's findings began by saying that the school has made changes to the structure of leadership following Mrs Edgar's permanent appointment as principal. It noted that roles within the senior leadership team have been restructured and that the appointment of a senior vice principal "allowed for clearer lines of sight in terms of areas of responsibility". 

The inspector said that improved accountability and communication with all stakeholders "was evident" during the inspection.

The letter, which is available on Ofsted's website, said: "During this inspection, we focused on the areas for improvement that were identified at the last inspection relating to the behaviour of pupils, their attendance and the consistency of communication with pupils and parents. The evidence shows that you have taken decisive and well-chosen actions to address these areas.

"There is an appropriate sense of urgency to the changes you are making. Staff are working well with you to implement these changes and pupils are responding well too.
