Ken Harris, who had moved to the Worcester area, died recently.

Ken was a town councillor in Knighton for many years and he was Mayor of the town in 2010 to 2011. He was also elected as county councillor for Knighton in 1999 until 2012 when he lost his seat to Peter Medlicott.

Current Knighton Mayor Councillor Chris Branford announced Ken’s passing at a recent meeting.

She said: “I felt quite sad announcing that Ken had passed away. He was a fellow Councillor and Mayor 2010/2011 and a County Councillor. I asked the members to stand for two minutes silence.

“On behalf of myself and Knighton Town Council we send our condolences to Ken’s wife Ruby and family.”

Councillor James Gibson-Watt, Leader of Powys County Council, said: “Ken Harris was a faithful and diligent servant to the people of Knighton and Powys during his time as a Powys county councillor.

“Always forthright in his views, he introduced a great deal of common-sense into any debate. I liked him a lot and his passing is sad news indeed. On behalf of everyone at Powys County Council, I offer our sincere condolences to his family and friends for their loss.”
