Incident commander Joe Thompson said: "The driver has come off the EP and then come onto Hollinsgate and then he's noticed some smoke coming through the air vents in his van.

"He's pulled up on the side of the road, the paved area. He's got out to investigate and as he's opened the bonnet he's noticed the fire and obviously that's developed.

"When we got here approximately 50 per cent of the van was involved in fire and then it's just a case of us managing it safely and [getting it] under control."

He also thanked West Mercia Police for acting quickly and closing the road so firefighters could go to work and keep the blaze from getting out of control.
