Firefighters and police scrambled to blaze at pub in Wellington town centre

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service crews have been tackling a blaze at a pub in Wellington.

Wellington's Amber Watch firefighter crew said they had been called to the incident at the White Lion Inn on Crown Street shortly before 10am today (December 16).

An update on social media said they had initially been alerted to reports of a 'building fire'.

On arrival they found smoke coming from an extraction vent, with four firefighters wearing breathing equipment while using hoses to put out the blaze.

The update said: "Amber Watch alerted at 09.54 along with wholetime colleagues on Red Watch to reports of a building fire at The White Lion Inn, Wellington.

"On arrival, crews could see smoke issuing from an extraction vent.

"A total of 4x firefighters wearing BA were committed to extinguish the fire using hose reel jets. Crews then used the PPV fan to clear the building of smoke. Police were also in attendance."
