Sleeping Beauty at Theatre Severn was brought to an abrupt halt on Saturday evening when fighting broke out in the audience.

The theatre’s Christmas pantomime, starring legendary dame Brad Fitt and Britain’s Got Talent star Tommy J Rollason this year, is attended by thousands of children and families over the festive season.

The cast left the stage for 15 minutes while security staff and venue managers tried to deal with the incident.

A spokeswoman for the theatre said: “Theatre Severn can confirm that following an incident at the 6pm performance of the Sleeping Beauty pantomime on Saturday, December 14, the police were called to attend.

“Venue management and SIA licensed security staff attended the incident promptly.

“The performance was paused and resumed after a delay of approximately 15 minutes. The incident is currently a matter for the police.”

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: “Officers responded to a report of an assault at Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury at around 7.35pm on Saturday.

“A woman in her 30s was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.

 “Enquiries are currently on-going.”
