People living in parts of Shrewsbury and Oswestry will be going to new polling stations at next year’s local elections.
Shropshire Council agreed for changes to happen at the Bagley, Porthill, Copthorne and Monkmoor wards of Shrewsbury, and Castle ward in Oswestry.
The latter will see Oswestry Cricket Club pavillion replace Horeb Welsh Methodist Rooms, while in Shrewsbury, Greenfields & District Bowling Club will be the Bagley ward station instead of Bagley Sports Social Club, Shropshire Education and Conference Centre will replace Army Reserve Centre in Copthorne, the polling station in Monkmoor will now be Abbots Wood Day Centre instead of Belvidere Primary School, and in Porthill, Shrewsbury School Cricket Centre will replace Army Reserve Centre.
“A review of polling districts, polling places and polling stations should be carried out on a regular basis, to ensure all locations remain appropriate, and suitable for electors,” said Andy Begley, chief executive of Shropshire Council.
“The proposed polling places have been identified following consultation with local members and partner organisations, and a full review on their suitability has been conducted.
Mr Begley added that a public consultation was held between September 23 and October 21, with eight reponses received.
“Following further consultation with members of Wheathill Parish Council, it was confirmed the request to review the existing polling place arrangements had been withdrawn,” said Mr Begley.
“As no further submissions have been received, the existing arrangements would remain in place.”
Full Council agreed to the recommendations, with any changes incorporated into the revised register when it is published on February 1.
